India's Tejas Fighter Jet Prepares for ASRAAM Missile Upgrade

India's Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is embarking on a critical study to enhance the capabilities of the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A. The project aims to seamlessly integrate the Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) into the fighter jet's arsenal.

The study will analyze the feasibility of equipping the Tejas Mk1A with both single and dual ASRAAM configurations. Engineers will conduct critical ASE analysis to ensure the aircraft's safe and stable flight, even with the added missiles. This analysis considers the delicate balance between the aircraft's structure and aerodynamic forces.

Additionally, the study will involve complex calculations to predict the aircraft's responses to the ASRAAMs under various flight conditions, making sure control systems remain effective. Recent wind tunnel tests with a Tejas Mk1A model outfitted with two ASRAAMs confirm the active exploration of this upgrade.

Last year, reports indicated that MBDA officials confirmed the ongoing ASRAAM integration process. If successful, the ASRAAM will join the Russian R-73 and Israeli Python-5 as potent close-combat weapons for the Tejas Mk1A.

This project highlights India's commitment to bolstering the Tejas Mk1A's combat readiness and its ongoing drive to strengthen its domestic defense capabilities.

Python-5 is world best CCM , India should have gone for License production for Python-5

ASRAAM is lighter, and CCMs are fire and forgot kind of things.....all of them are competent.....AIM 9 is active from 1956 still one of the best CCMs

Involving ADA always delays the project. Why not give it directly to HAL . They can do the work better.

Still studying , what they were doing all these years, LCA Ml1A is not a new program, and also not a radical change from previous LCA mk1 , So all these should have been done earlier .
And we should have gone with twin rack Pyloan ASRAM's by now.
India needs to speed up the pace.

As if HAL is any good. 😂😂😂 Wasted years and thousands of crores on mk2 and other projects. No ATGM on Prachand till now.

If HAL want to make another 100 MK1A jets then it's better that they incorporate any changes on that order and not the current 83 jets. In order to make that possible they might have to make major structural changes to the wing and main body to carry the extra weight and to ensure it can fly and survive the high speed throughout its flight.

HAL or any vendor will only make changes unless or untill the user ask for them..

If the IAF wants other changes , they will submit the report to the vendor .

Despite that HAL should always continuously look to improve the jets technology and capabilities as every air force will want improvements every decade or so. Otherwise inducting 100 jets with the same technology and capabilities means that all of them become old technology at the same time. This leaves the air force vulnerable as we always need to have a military and technological advantage over our enemy.
