DRDO successfully tests Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile, Su-30 MKI Provides the Chase

Chandipur, Odisha – India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced a significant achievement on Thursday, April 18th with the successful test flight of the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM).

The launch took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, located off the coast of Odisha.

Precision Technology and Extensive Monitoring

The ITCM's test flight was closely scrutinized with a multitude of tools. Range sensors such as radar, Electro-Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS), and telemetry tracked the missile's performance across various locations.

Additionally, the Indian Air Force deployed SU-30-Mk-I aircraft for further monitoring. The DRDO reports that all of the missile's subsystems performed exceptionally during the testing phase.

Key Features and Collaborative Development

The ITCM is a powerful tool bolstered by several key features. It utilizes waypoint navigation for precise guidance and showcased its ability to fly at very low altitudes, skimming the sea's surface. Crucially, this test validated the performance of the missile's indigenously developed propulsion system, designed by The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) in Bengaluru. Advanced avionics and software contribute to its enhanced reliability.

The ITCM is a collaborative triumph, developed primarily by the Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) with vital contributions from other DRDO laboratories and Indian industries. Senior scientists from these organizations, along with representatives from the production partner, were present to witness the test.

Defense Leaders Applaud Success

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, calling this successful development "a major milestone for Indian defence R&D." Secretary, Department of Defence- Research and Development (R&D) & Chairman DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat, also commended the entire DRDO team for this significant achievement.

Implications for India's Defense

The ITCM represents a considerable boost to India's defense capabilities. This indigenously developed cruise missile, with its advanced technology and reliable propulsion system, strengthens the nation's self-sufficiency in the defense sector.
