India To Boost Air Power with New Low Observable Air-Launched Cruise Missile Project

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to bolster the nation's air attack capabilities with a significant new project.

The DRDO has been given approval to develop a critical stealth component for a long-range, air-launched cruise missile, known as a Low Observable Air-Launched Cruise Missile (LOALCM).

Advanced Stealth for Increased Effectiveness

The DRDO will focus on developing a cutting-edge Low Observable (LO) Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) seeker.

This technology uses specialized materials and carefully engineered shapes to significantly reduce the missile's radar signature, making it much harder for enemy defenses to locate and track.

This stealth capability will be crucial in enabling the missile to penetrate defended airspace and strike strategic targets with greater precision.

Long-Range, Precision Strikes

The complete missile system is designed for long-range strikes exceeding 250 kilometers, primarily for pre-planned attacks against stationary targets of high importance.

It will operate robustly in extreme conditions, ensuring its effectiveness in different combat scenarios. Operators will benefit from a sophisticated mission planning system, allowing for flexibility and adaptability in deployment.

A Significant Leap Forward

This ambitious project marks a major advancement in India's air attack capabilities. The new missile will enhance the country's ability to conduct long-range precision strikes against well-defended targets.

While technical details continue to develop, more information about the missile's capabilities is expected soon. The project highlights the DRDO's dedication to developing state-of-the-art technologies to protect India's national security.

Is it necessary that India should tom tom all the specialised weapons on which projects are going on or on the drawing board? Why can't We keep in secrecy some advanced weapons for a surprise use in times as and when they arise

It is good we are developing such missiles but they are costly and can be used only for valuable targets only so we must develop UMPK or JDAM type kits to guide dumb bombs as these are cost effective with lot of destructive power as shown by Russian airforce in Avdvka.Russia-Ukraine conflict has really shown that FPVs and UMPK are really important weapons we must have in large no.s and we lack both of them.

Think other way around. If the enemy is aware of our capability then they might be less aggressive towards India. After all very high level update about a weapon is not considered as a very secret information anyway.

Developing long range low level stealth missiles are the next game changer that needs to be developed and they should use the recently developed stealth material from the AMCA jet by using it as the outer cover. They should also look at using a low subsonic engine to reduce it's infrared signature which will reduce it's chances of being detected.

It should also have an IIR Seeker for better IFF recognition and terminal stealth.

It would be 1000 times better than the so called stealth Scalp or Storm Shadow that are utter failure in Ukraine.

Another type of Storm Shadow and KEPD Taurus 😹😹😹 well if this thing goes to failed let's just license copy a working unit instead to cost cutting and put our own electronics, warheads, navigation and engine init and sale it for a bang of bucks to friendly countries 😺
