AI Drives Precision and Agility in India's Revamped ATAGS Artillery

Bharat Forge, a leading Indian defense manufacturer, has unveiled significant technological advancements in its Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS). Chairman Baba Kalyani revealed how the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the ATAGS into a cutting-edge weapon system.

One key AI-powered improvement lies in the ATAGS's maneuverability. Using AI algorithms and specialized sensors, the system optimizes the gun's positioning, resulting in a drastically reduced turning circle. This enhanced agility allows for faster and more efficient deployment in combat situations.

Kalyani highlighted the ATAGS's status as a "fully software-driven, fully digital gun." This means precise software controls every aspect of the 155mm/52 caliber howitzer's operation, from targeting to firing. AI integration further refines this digital system, enabling even greater accuracy and responsiveness.

The addition of AI technology represents a milestone for Indian artillery capabilities. Experts believe these advancements could solidify the ATAGS's position as a highly formidable weapon, providing Indian forces with a significant tactical advantage on the battlefield.

Where are the orders by Indian army and government...? Till eternity we will keep on testing and it will take another 20 years or what for induction..?
Seems like Indian army and Indian government are dead sure that India will not face any war like situation , that's why they are like all the time in the world. Or they are quite inefficient and then head must roll.

This article is dedicated for those who complain that private sector screw drives while they are silent about 70+ years screw driving by DPSUs. Private sector unlike DPSUs are never satisfied in screw driving to maximise their profits. Though nothing is mentioned as to who has developed this enhancement, DRDO or Kalyani or TATA advance systems.

Kalyani need to add a sticker "Made in USA" on the barrel and watch Indian Import Army buy these puppies like hot cakes in thousands.

Blame DRDO. The gun is overweight and is not compatible with our GCVs. Tender for new GCVs has already been released. So orders for ATAGS are guaranteed but they will get delayed and numbers will be reduced, leading to losses for private sector entities, all thanks to our brilliant DRDO.

The whole point of any military weapon is to have a advantage over the enemy rather than just copying it. The ATAGS has the longest range and can outgun any gun that's used by Pakistan or China which gives us a military advantage by being able to hit targets with impunity without risking our own guns. The ATAGS can shoot and scoot very quickly by itself with a minimum amount of effort over most terrain and the only drawback is that it weighs a bit more than other guns.

Also with buying new guns we would of had to buy new trucks anyway as one truck is assigned to one gun and we currently use different types of truck based on the weight and type of the artillery and you can't mix and match and use different trucks. We have already developed our own indigenous truck with a powerful engine that can pull the guns easily enough. So this is a win-win solution for the military and economy as we are developing and making the guns and trucks which benefits all.

The military have already decided that they will purchase at least 300 guns in the first batch but we need more of the ATAGS that can move on its own capability or mounted guns on trucks. We need more fast moving and manoeuvrable guns that can shoot and scoot along with using hit and run tactics which makes it harder for drones to find and target the guns. The ATAGS is the most advanced gun and if it has incorporated AI technology to improve its performance, accuracy, efficiency and capabilities then it's a big bonus.

Again goes on to show your lack of knowledge. I mean seriously? One truck is assigned to one gun????

Do you know the tender size for GCVs? ~250. For guns? 307. So how will you fit one on one system, genius?

Only Kalyani invest in RD

Tata Adani Ambani Mahindra... Are. Screw driver Kings

Also I don't like DPSUs. But Indian big P ivate companies are equally worse

Again there are different tenders based on the different type and weight of the guns. The tender for the ATAGS will use our indigenous HMV but also lighter gun towing vehicles. How did you get that information that they are just ordering 250?

All other guns weight 15 tons or less. Our existing GTVs can cater to them.

Army has specifically issued a new tender for 252 trucks, or GTVs, with a capacity of 20 tons. These are the only GTVs that can tow the ATAGS. So the information is coming directly from MoD and Army.

No when buying guns that’s when they buy their vehicles with them and those vehicles stay with them to tow guns only as you can’t just use any other trucks. You will only replace its vehicle if it’s badly damaged or crashes.

The army are going to order two type of trucks which is the high mobility vehicle and the gun towing vehicles. The HMV is for 20t and the GTV is for 15t. Which type of vehicle are you talking about and where did you get the number of 252 trucks will be ordered?

It’s army’s orders. Go and read the specs and the tender details. MoD’s website has it. Read and then comment.

The last Towed gun which was imported was M777 on a G 2 G deal. . After that which US gun was in the fray ?
And, what indigenous towed artillery has been procured by the Indian Army after they had imported 145 M777?

Definitely 145 is not all the towed artillery IA needs.

Which foreign guns has our army imported which was available with the Indian industry (at the time of the tender)?
Problem is, after the M777 tender, there has been no more acquisition by IA. So, AFAIK the only towed artillery procured by the IA has been "imported".
