Bangladesh has made a significant stride in modernizing its military forces by acquiring advanced Italian-designed anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). The move underscores the country's commitment to strengthening its defensive capabilities amidst rising regional concerns.

The newly acquired weaponry includes the powerful Alcotan-100 (M2) anti-tank weapon, produced by the Spanish arms manufacturer Instalaza. The Alcotan-100 has a proven track record of effectiveness against armored vehicles, particularly those of Russian design – a significant factor given the prevalence of Russian military equipment in the region.

Bangladesh prominently showcased its new anti-tank arsenal during the recent annual parade of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). This public display emphasizes the priority the Bangladeshi government places on enhancing its military readiness.

The acquisition of these advanced weapons comes within a context of heightened tensions in neighboring Myanmar. Ongoing political turmoil and military crackdowns in Myanmar have raised concerns within Bangladesh, potentially motivating the country to bolster its own defensive capabilities.

When India was flooded withbmillions of bangladeshi refugees, we fought war with pakis in 1971. Bangladesh is in similar spot with rohingyas and myanmar.

Open your eyes. They're already badly outmatched by Myanmar. It's because of this bad attitude we are losing one neighbour after another.

Has the army said it is ready and has cleared the trials? And only Tata WhAP is ready, even as per DRDO. DRDO gave the specs to multiple companies (at least 2, as per the publicly available records). Mahindra, for example, just revealed it's WhAP. So companies are still making it. How can then Army be partial and give the order?

Bangladesh bought some ATGM from China but they realised the poor quality, unreliable technology, faulty equipment, lacks the penetration power like China said it could and ditched it because it turned out to be useless and more of a danger to their own forces than to the enemy. So they had no option but to look west.

India needs to start placing orders for the indigenous ATGM which has been very successful and passed all of the tests and trials with different variants made. This will cut down on foreign expensive imports and it will be ideal to replace the older generation ATGM used from Russia as our own ATGM performs even better than their own 3rd generation ATGM.

Someone is lying, either they are not as successful as claimed, or not accepted standard of armed forces, or lobby preventing it may be just lethargic babus. It is hard to find what is the real cause of induction delays when there is no transparency.

Who said the trials are successful? DRDO. They are known to be liars. They are a failure in most cases. Period. Whenever anything meets even remotely the needs of the army or can be used in any way or form, MoD forces armed forces to buy it at any price point. Look at Arjun, Tejas, ATAGS, Insas etc. The ATGMs simply have been an utter failure. Look at ATAGS, in fact. Army didn't buy it ( as of now), but Kalyani Group managed to export it. But something like that never happened with our ATGMs. This shows that the missiles have simply failed and DRDO is lying continuously about it.
