Astra Microwave Secures Rs 380 Crore Contract to Supply Arudhra MPR Subsystems to BEL

Astra Microwave Products Ltd. has secured a landmark deal, its largest domestic order to date, to supply advanced Medium Power Radar (MPR) subsystems to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The ₹386 Crore contract marks a significant boost to India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

The MPR, codenamed "Arudhra," is a sophisticated, indigenously developed radar designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and set to be manufactured by BEL. This system successfully completed trials with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and is ready for operational deployment.

The Arudhra MPR is a 4th generation multi-function phased array radar, offering advanced surveillance, detection, and tracking of aerial targets through electronic steering in azimuth and elevation.

It seamlessly integrates with Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems for accurate target identification, enhancing battlefield situational awareness and reducing the risk of friendly fire.

Astra Microwave's expertise in producing these critical radar subsystems underscores their vital role in bolstering India's self-reliance in defence technology.

This major order from BEL validates their capabilities and highlights the growing strength of India's domestic defence industry.

Conclusion

The successful development of the Arudhra MPR and Astra Microwave's substantial role in its production showcase a maturing Indian defence ecosystem.

This collaboration is poised to strengthen national security while positioning India as a key player in defence technology.

this seems like it would be installed at military bases and other critical installations. It does not seem mobile.

We need to set up a integrated network of radars that can monitor the entire Indian air space along the borders to detect incoming threats of all kind but we need more long range high powered radars that gives us any early warning of all type of threats.
