Minister Kiren Rijiju Shared images of “Matsya 6000” for Samudrayaan Expedition

India is set to embark on an unprecedented ocean exploration mission called “Samudrayaan.” As part of this mission, the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, is developing “Matsya 6000,” a state-of-the-art manned submersible. This vessel will enable aquanauts to delve into the mysteries of the deep sea, marking India’s inaugural journey into manned ocean exploration. “Matsya 6000” is designed to reach depths of up to 6,000 meters, with the first underwater voyage planned to reach 500 meters. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently shared video footage and images of this remarkable project, highlighting its significance for marine research and sustainable resource exploration.

“Samudrayaan” is a groundbreaking initiative that will revolutionize India’s understanding of the ocean’s depths and its abundant resources. The mission aims to send a team of three humans aboard the “Matsya 6000” submersible to explore ocean depths of 6,000 meters. These aquanauts will conduct in-depth studies of deep-sea resources and assess biodiversity, contributing valuable insights to marine science.
