Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Secures Orders Worth Rs 3,000 Crore for Akash missile and NGMV Project

In a significant development, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has announced a series of substantial orders totaling Rs 3,000 crore. Among these orders is a substantial contract valued at Rs 2,118.57 crore, which BEL has secured from Cochin Shipyard.

Under this notable agreement, BEL is entrusted with the task of delivering next-generation missile vessels, equipped with cutting-edge technology, to the Indian Navy. These advanced vessels are part of the Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) project, specifically designed for anti-surface warfare corvettes.

In a statement, BEL elaborated on the contract, stating, “Received an order of Rs 2,118.57 Crore from Cochin Shipyard Limited for the supply of various equipment consisting of sensors, weapon equipment, fire control systems, and communication equipment for six Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV), a class of anti-surface warfare corvettes for the Indian Navy.”

This project is not just about fulfilling an order; it represents a collaborative effort involving various sectors of the Indian electronics industry. Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will play a vital role as sub-vendors for BEL. By engaging these sectors, BEL is actively contributing to the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative, promoting indigenous manufacturing and self-sufficiency in critical defense technology.

Apart from the substantial order received from Cochin Shipyard, BEL has also secured additional contracts worth Rs 886 crore. These orders encompass diverse aspects of defense technology, including the upgrade of AFNET SATCOM N/W, the enhancement of Akash Missiles with RF Seeker technology, the provision of Inertial Navigation Systems, and the supply of various associated equipment and spares.
