The Chief of Naval Operations of the United States, Admiral Jonathan Greenert, received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi on Monday.

Admiral Greenert was received by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma and other senior officers.
Admiral Greenert is in Delhi to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.

His visit is being seen as crucial as it is taking place a week after a 10-day-long joint Indo-US naval exercise called Malabar 2012, which concluded in the Bay of Bengal.

Over the years, navies of both countries have undertaken several diverse bilateral activities such as training exchanges, information exchange and technical cooperation.

The navies, much like their parent nations have a significant convergence of interests, especially in the maintenance of maritime security in this fragile region.
