India to send Nuclear Experts to Japan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi says he will send delegates to Japan to inspect the latest disaster prevention measures in the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.

He spoke with Japanese industry minister Hiroshige Seko on the sidelines of an investors' summit in Modi's home state of Gujarat.

The meeting came 2 months after the countries signed an agreement that will allow Japan to export its nuclear power technology to India.

Seko said he wants Indian experts to see how the crippled Fukushima plant is being decommissioned and how the government is screening reactors under stricter regulations.

Modi agreed to send a delegation and said that his government is impressed by Japan's nuclear safety measures.

India's rapidly growing economy faces a serious power shortage. The country plans to achieve a 10-fold increase in the energy output of its nuclear plants over the next 15 years.
